This is absolutely the place for girls who like to lunch. Or make that brunch, or dinner even. Whatever the occasion The Chelsea Ivy Garden is just the most idyllic place to dine. From the grand decor of the restaurant, to the perfectly pretty floral terrace and orangery right through to the English country garden it definitely has the wow factor.
Situated in on Kings Road SW3 this grade 2 listed eatery is a firm favourite of mine and my best friend's. We've been a few times together and we always have the loveliest time. We were there a couple of weekends ago to celebrate her birthday with family and managed to get a table in the terrace - which in my opinion is the best place to sit.
The terrace homes a huge stone fireplace coved in Ivy and decorated with huge white candles. Antique mirrors line the walls, adorned with ivy, climbing roses and wisteria (ha get me - I'm not even a gardener). The marble tables are filled with the heaviest of napkins and sparkling silverware. (you even get a hook for your bag). The seating in the English country garden, is also beautiful with a large water feature taking centre stage. Luxurious blankets are supplied to keep off the chill (yes I know it's June but this is England) and also look super chic whilst you relax on the striped cushioned seating underneath the huge parasols.
Its the perfect place for people watching and as you can imagine the clientele is definitely worth a little spectating. From the super rich to average joe, there's couples on dates, ladies who lunch and families on special occasions. The atmosphere is bustling yet friendly and relaxed.
As for the food. The British menu offers breakfast, weekend brunch, an all day selection, - including fish, seafood and steaks, there's some seriously delicious desserts and of course cocktails. The extensive wine and drinks list is worth a study and the Lavender Lady cocktail is worth a try.
I always have the 'Chicken Milanese' a crumbed breast of chicken topped with a fried hen's egg and black truffle mayonnaise mmmhhhh. I normally order a side of chunky fries with parmesan and black truffle shavings. Which are amazing. My friend always has the shepherds pie which I'm told is also amazing (creatures of habit us). As for dessert I'd totally recommend the Chocolate Bomb. A large chocolate dome with milk foam, vanilla ice cream and honeycomb. When it arrives at your table the waiter then pours over the warm salted caramel sauce which melts the chocolate and looks pretty awesome. Not to mention tastes delicious. Definitely one for chocoholics.
Overall the food is really good - I've read a few bad reviews but I've always had a lovely meal and the service has always been impeccable. If your looking for somewhere special to eat in London The Chelsea Ivy Garden is definitely one to consider. Just make sure you book well in advance is you wish to sit in the garden especially as were now into the 'summer' the restaurant is beautiful and if you walk in you can normally get a table, you may have a short wait which is the perfect excuse to have a drink at the bar.
The Chelsea Ivy Garden is well worth a visit - even if it's just for the people watching! I can't wait to return!
Where's you favourite place to eat in London? I'd love some recommendations?
